History
On January 22, 1968, NASA launched Apollo 5 into a Low Earth orbit. This space mission used the very first unmanned lunar module to demonstrate its performance (and later paved the way for manned flights throughout the Apollo program). After successful separation, its ascent module initially did not achieve proper orbit. NASA personnel were quick to diagnose that the problem was due to a guidance software error and pursued an alternate plan that led to mission success. With the mission complete, all stages of this lunar module were placed into decaying orbits to break up within the atmosphere.
Drawing inspiration from this story about Apollo 5 and developments from within the space industry of Canada itself, on January 22, 2020, Ascent & Descent Space Solutions Ltd. was founded. Locating our company in the province of Nova Scotia was also a logical choice, given developments of a Canadian spaceport, it being the home province of our company’s founder, and one of its goals being to help retain technical talent within the province and nation.
